Frequently Asked Questions

Performance and sport psychology help overcome mental barriers through focus, confidence, and resilience.

  • Sport psychology differs from other disciplines by helping athletes specifically manage pressure, motivation, and setbacks to enhance performance.

Performance psychology is broader and uses psychological tools to help people in high-pressure fields like the arts, business, medicine, and the military—not just sports.

Both fields teach mental skills and resilience, but performance psychology is for anyone who wants to do their best in tough situations, not just athletes.

  • When you train your mind along with your body, you can overcome challenges, stay healthy, and perform your best more often.

  • Sport and performance psychology can help you do better by teaching you mental skills and strategies to stay focused, confident, and motivated when things get tough.

  • Before you book an appointment, we’ll first have a conversation to determine which service is the best fit for you. In this brief phone call, we’ll talk about your goals, any challenges you’re facing, and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together. I’ll also answer any questions you may have and explain what working together could look like. This initial call usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes and is designed to help you feel comfortable and prepared for the next steps.

  • I offer both in-person and online sessions. Online sessions use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform to protect your privacy.

  • Psychotherapy can help with many issues, such as anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, trauma, relationship problems, grief, eating concerns, and big life changes. It can also support your personal growth, help you manage emotions, and improve your overall well-being.

  • My treatment approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and integrative, depending on your individual needs and goals. I use methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused strategies to help you develop practical skills, build resilience, and build lasting positive change. Together, we create clear goals, track your progress, and adjust our work when needed to ensure that therapy is both beneficial and supportive for you.

  • The first intake session usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. Regular therapy sessions are about 45 minutes long.

  • The length of sport or performance consultations can vary and will be discussed during your first meeting, but most last between 30 and 60 minutes.

  • In your initial intake session, you’ll talk with a therapist about why you’re seeking help, your background, and what you hope to achieve. This helps the therapist understand your needs and lets you see if they’re a good match for you.

  • I am in-network with the Princeton University Student Health plan and will submit claims for Princeton students. There’s no copay for your first session, and a $10 copay for each session after that.

I am currently an out-of-network provider for all other insurance plans, so payment is due in full at the time of service. If you plan to seek reimbursement, I can provide a superbill, which is a detailed receipt listing the services provided, costs, and relevant codes that you can submit to your insurance company. After you submit the superbill, your insurance company will review your claim and let you know if they will reimburse you. If they need additional information, they may reach out to you directly. Contact your insurance provider if you have questions about your out-of-network benefits or the reimbursement process.

  • I work with athletes at all levels—not just professionals. Whether you are a youth athlete, high school or college competitor, recreational participant, or an elite professional.

  • I am licensed in New Jersey and Massachusetts, and I am part of PSYPACT, which lets me offer telepsychology in many states. You can check the full list of PSYPACT states at www.psypact.org. If you’re not sure if you’re eligible, please contact me.
