Sport Psychology

Sport Counseling can help an athlete or performer reach their optimal goals and potential by exploring barriers and refining mental skills.

There are many roadblocks that an athlete can face whether it be on or off the field. Sometimes that roadblock can be mental and greatly impact performance. Having the right mindset is critical in order to overcome challenges and give you that mental edge to assist in enhancing performance, increase motivation or confidence, build resiliency, or increase enjoyment in the sport. Mental and physical health go hand in hand when it comes to training, especially at the elite level.

Common goals that an athlete may seek a mental performance consultant
for include, but are not limited to:

✓ Decreasing and better managing stress and anxiety

✓ Increasing motivation and enjoyment in the sport

✓ Team conflict or relational issues (i.e., issues with family, friends)

✓ Increasing Confidence Levels

✓ Coping with Sport Injury Recovery

✓ Increase Concentration/Focus

✓ Increasing productivity levels

✓ Learning mental skills to assist with performance enhancement

An athlete can benefit from a psychotherapist that is trained to address clinical areas of mental health and help an athlete acquire a better understanding of the root cause of their anxiety, stress, or mental road blocks. Sport performance counseling is provided by a psychotherapist that is a licensed mental health professional (i.e., licensed professional counselor) and who also has specialized training in working with athletes and performers (i.e. Certified Mental Health Consultant (CMPC)).
