ABOUT DR. VANESSA CHAFOS

Dr. Chafos is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® administered by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and the founder of the Center for Counseling and Mindful Living, LLC. She is currently practicing as a Psychologist in NJ and MA. She received her Master's in Counseling Psychology from Felician University in 2012 and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Sport and Exercise from Seton Hall University in 2021. In 2022, Dr. Chafos completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Princeton University’s Counseling and Psychological Services, specializing in working with college students and athletes. Through her private practice, Dr. Chafos provides specialized support with her background in mental health, sport and performance psychology for individuals navigating the complex demands of elite sport, the corporate sector, academic environments, and with those experiencing life transitions. She has also been selected and listed in the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee  (USOPC) Mental Health and Performance Directory.

Dr. Chafos takes a mindful, personalized approach to working with individuals to help them reach their goals in a warm, supportive atmosphere. She tends to incorporate mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, and other performance techniques to support growth and the realization of strengths and goals. She has presented at regional and national conferences on topics including mindfulness, sports injuries, and performance-related variables. Furthermore, she has taught a range of undergraduate psychology courses as an adjunct professor. Over the past several years, Dr. Chafos has gained extensive experience working with diverse populations in outpatient, residential, intensive outpatient, inpatient, and school/university settings. performance-related variables.
